I don’t know what you practice.
This might be for you, if you are:

  • A CAM practitioner, therapist, healer, bodyworker and yearning for European genealogy, folklore, foraging, medieval markets, goddess spirituality. You love it, but still it seems scattered and unintegrated into your beautiful practice
  • An Ayurvedic practitioner, translating three Doshas and six Indian seasons onto a European client living in our four European seasons. You observe this friction, however long you practice it?
  • A western herbalist, standing in front of fifty herbs for cold and cough, knowing medicinal plants deeply. And still, you are reaching for one more by instinct than by system?

Are you quietly wondering whether European Traditional Medicine was always just folklore, rich but unsystematic? What happened to the European healing wisdom of your ancestors?

Humoral Medicine

It has a name. It is called Humoral Medicine. And you never learned it, because it was actively suppressed, and is now all but vanished.

Its written tradition started in ancient Greece, with Hippocrates and Galen of Pergamon… what, ancient Greece? Let us explore this deeper:

My Philosophy

Humoral Medicine is not just “Ancient Greek Medicine”. It can be traced back to Europe’s Bronze Age, even Neolithic Age. The megalithic alignments. The solar wheel. The female village healer tradition. The four roots of Empedocles, and finally its compilation – not invention – in manuscripts. Avicenna brought it into the Arab world, where it survives as Unani until today.

In Europe, women like Hildegard of Bingen and Trota of Salerno practised and preserved it. The manuscripts returned re-translated from the Arab world to Europe, but in those dark Medieval Ages, wisdom was distorted and suppressed, theorised into crude bloodletting. Female healers were first excluded from European universities, later burnt as witches…. and finally, Humoral Medicine got abolished by modern medicine as late as 1850.

You are not failing to find your ancestral healing system. You are working in the aftermath of its deliberate dismantling. Because Europe colonised itself over and over again.

Let us revive Humoral Medicine together!
Because People and Land Are Kin

In my experience, treating people with the healing art developed over millennia on the land of your ancestors is most effective – because people and land are kin. Indigenous knowledge systems are telling that people and land share a constitution. Ancient medicine texts are telling the same story. Hippocrates “Airs, Waters and Places”. Ashtangha Hrdayam by Vagbhata. The medicine in front of your home, connected with the seasonal cycles of your home or origin is the one most suitable for healing.

Schola Medica Humoralis

What is the School of Humoral Medicine teaching?

Humoral Medicine is a systematic, yet intuitive European Ancestral Healing tradition. Rooted in the four European seaons and the living ecology of the European biosphere:

Your ancestors were reading your individual constitution as a mix of warm, cold, dry or moist. They were recognising four humors as bodily fluids and named them: Blood, Yellow Bile, Black Bile and Phlegm. They used this system to diagnose and treat all known (and unknown) diseases. Humoral Medicine is a holistic medicine as it works with the whole person and the four Temperaments: Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholic and Phlegmatic. What we would call “Spirit” today, had a central position:

The Threefold Pneuma

The four Elements, Temperaments and Humors map directly onto the four European seasons:

Humoral Medicine Wheel

  • Air – Spring – Blood – Sanguine

  • Fire – Summer – Yellow Bile – Choleric

  • Earth – Autumn – Black Bile – Melancholic

  • Water – Winter – Phlegm – Phlegmatic

This is the framework that finally explains why your patients thrive in certain seasons and struggle in others. And why fifty herbs for cold and cough narrow to a few in one effective decoction that fit this client, in this season, with this individual constitution, in deep kinship with their ancestral land.

I am building the Schola Medica Humoralis to empower you to be the bearer of wisdom of your ancestral lineage. Decolonise your own clinical mind and bring the knowledge of your ancestors home!

About Morgana Hack

My Story – How I found My Lineage

I trained as a physician in modern medicine at Philipps-University of Marburg, Germany. And I am an Ayurvedic Vaidya in the Kerala Namboothiri Gurukula lineage, under Vaidya Ravi: I learned Ayurveda the traditional way in India. For over two decades, I practised Ayurveda with clients who were, like me, European. And I kept noticing the same quiet thing: a genuinely beautiful system, doing its work — but there was always this friction. Six seasons instead of four. A constitutional framework built for another land's people and soil. Read my full story....

It took me more than two decades to understand what that mismatch actually was. Not a flaw in Ayurveda — Ayurveda is whole, exactly as it is, for the land it comes from. The mismatch was an absence on my side: I had no equivalent to offer my own clients, rooted in European soil, the four seasons, and our ancestors. So I went looking for it. And I found it, oh wonder, in India itself: Unani — literally “Ionian,” meaning Greek, medicine, which has survived among Muslim communities in India — and from there I found myself drawn more and more into the fuller Humoral Medicine tradition, Europe’s own systematic constitutional system. I started reading the ancient texts, and saw better results for my European clients when applying Humoral Medicine instead of Ayurveda — which I could, by the way, grasp so quickly because of my strong Ayurveda training.

And then I found my ancestral healing roots again, this time in my own European home:

My own great-great-grandfather was a folk healer in the Širvintos region of Lithuania, around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. As regional folk-healing traditions across Europe often did, healers of this kind worked with these same temperaments — warm, cold, moist, dry. We still hold the church birth and marriage records that trace the line. His daughter, my great-grandmother, needed to flee during two world wars and ended up migrating to Germany. Her son, my own grandfather, became a pharmacist in the age of Germany’s *Wirtschaftswunder*, when modern medicine alone seemed to hold all the answers. His daughter, my mother, wanted to study medicine herself; she became a pharmacist too, and it was her deep knowledge of medicinal plants that she passed on to me as a child.

It’s Europe’s own written medical tradition. Silenced for centuries — even within my own family, and documented in our own records. And I’ve come home to it.

Humoral Medicine is the European healing tradition I’m now practising, and I’m building the Schola Medica Humoralis to pass on our ancestral wisdom.

Ayurvedic Pulse Reading

You have likely already been your own most committed patient. As a lay person, as a herbalist, as a CAM practitioner — and still you carry something that won’t fully shift. A chronic condition. An autoimmune picture. A painful vulnerability you recognise in yourself and can’t quite resolve, no matter how good your own tools are.

You are not broken. You need to apply the constitutional framework that matches the land of your ancestors.

First Online Consultation: 90 minutes Constitutional Reading

The Journey begins with the 90 minutes constitutional assessment. Your Humoral Medicine Consultation reads two things as one: your Inner Ecology: your individual constitution, your present imbalance, the path your body has already walked — and your Outer Ecology: the land, plants, and seasons you actually live in, following the old Hippocratic tradition of “Airs, Waters, and Places”. Most modern constitutional systems never think to ask whether your body lives in kinship or in exile with its climate. But the old way always has.

You will leave with your full health history assessed through the humoral framework, your named constitutional picture, and your own Ecology Journal to start observing your body against the world it actually lives in.

The first Consultation can be a Standalone or followed by further online sessions.

Follow-Up Consultations: 60 minutes At Your Pace

After the Constitutional Reading, follow-up consultations include a complete humoral treatment plan: a personalised Diaita — food, movement, sleep, herbal medicine, spiritual practice — shaped around what your constitution and the turning seasons actually ask for. No fixed number of sessions. The pace is yours.

Each follow-up consultation can be a standalone after the first 90 minutes Constitutional Reading.
